OUR  HISTORY

Wing-Bain Funeral Home History

A family is posing for a picture in a living room.

Our story begins in 1962, when Richard (Dick) and Dorothy Wing purchased Nerison Furniture and Funeral Service from Carl Nerison in Montevideo. Dick was a graduate of the College of Mortuary Science and had years of experience with notable firms in Minneapolis, Minnesota before following his dream to own a funeral home.

Eventually, Dick and Dorothy sold the furniture business and relocated to the present location at 5th and Black Oak Avenue. The building itself was remodeled to accommodate the funeral business as well as a private family dwelling for the Wing family. They raised their three children- Beth, Rick & Cynthia in the funeral home before moving to a private residence in the mid 1980s.

In 1974, Dick purchased DeGrote Funeral home in Clara City and in 1979, Cynthia (nee Wing) and her husband, Everett H. Bain entered into partnership with the Wings. Wing-Bain purchased the Hamre Funeral Home in Granite Falls, MN in 1982 and in the early 1990s, Everett and Cynthia purchased all three funeral home locations allowing Dick and Dorothy Wing to retire.

In 2018, Sherri and Duane Stamps purchased the Wing-Bain Funeral Home from Everett and Cynthia. We are blessed that in his retirement, Everett continues to volunteer and serve the community in which he loves and calls home. Along with Sherri, Duane and Everett is Joseph Anderson who has been with the Wing-Bain Funeral Home for over 30 years.

Throughout the years, Wing-Bain Funeral Home has been extremely fortunate to have numerous dedicated staff assist in the daily operations. Among these have been Walter and Nellie Kruger, Norma Bourne, Lyle Olson, Troy Diggins and Linda Haff. Current licensed directors are Sherri Stamps, Joseph W. Anderson, Emily Olson and Everett H. Bain.

This dedicated team takes great pride in assisting community members with the difficult task of arranging for their loved one’s final tribute and offering expert assistance in pre-planning and pre-financing traditional funeral and cremation/memorial services.

Since its inception in 1962, Wing-Bain Funeral Home has seen many changes, but its underlying foundation and commitment has been to provide the community with the highest quality funeral service including compassionate, professional guidance, with strict attention to detail, regardless of family means or circumstance. We take great pride in the service we provide and hold the confidence placed in us in the highest regard.
