William Bernard Warrings was born October 14, 1910, the son of Hilen & Anna Warrings, in Crate Township, Chippewa County. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Bill graduated from the Clara City High School and went on to attend Augsburg College, where he participated in basketball and baseball. In 1933 he joined the Willmar Amateur Baseball League and then joined the Chicago Cubs in the minor league. Bill was later traded to the Los Angeles Angels, where he played in the Pacific Coast League in the Triple A ranks. Bill served his country in the United States Army, enlisting in 1940. He was honorably discharged in October of 1945. He was united in marriage to Laura Strommen on January 22, 1949, in Minneapolis. To this union one daughter was born. Bill enjoyed all sports and playing horseshoes. Bill and Laura loved to spend time with their family and also traveled.Bill began his career with the State of Minnesota, working with traffic control and was eventually transferred to the Willmar office where he retired after 33 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion for 62 years and was also inducted into the Augsburg Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in baseball. Bill passed away on Friday, November 7, 2008, at the Clara City Care Center. He was 98 years of age.He is survived by two daughters: Roxann (Jerry) Peters and Sandra (Roger) Larson all of Alexandria; nine grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and extended family and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2003, one sister Margaret and a great-great grandson Alexander Wills.
