Wendell DuWayne Ryer was born December 13, 1930, the son of James & Pearl Ryer, in Mandt Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota. He was baptized on June 25, 1931 and confirmed on May 13, 1945, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church In Montevideo. Wendell served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in October of 1953.Wendell was united in marriage with Sandra Clausen on March 5, 1955, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He worked for Woods Plumbing in Montevideo. He received his Journeyman's Plumbing License on December 21, 1959. They moved to Granite Falls in 1962, where he worked for Knutson Brothers Plumbing in Granite Falls. In 1975, he purchased Ryer Plumbing and Heating in Granite Falls. He retired in 1992. He was a member of the Granite Falls Fire Department for 20 years, the Montevideo Police Reserves?, Granite Falls Utility Commission, and the Granite Falls American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served at the Commander of the VFW for 12 years and was member of the Honor Guard for many years. Wendell was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling and spending time at the lake with family. He collected guns and enjoyed military and family history. He was involved in building the Veteran's Memorial in Granite Falls.He is survived by his wife Sandra; children: Yvonne (Neal) Eggebraaten and Kyle (Carrie) all of Granite Falls; five grandchildren: Katherine (Matthew) Zempel of Champlin; Christina (Eric) Nerdahl; Barrett Eggebraaten; Chelsey Ryer (fiancé Joseph Guzman) and Paige Ryer all of Granite Falls; two great grandchildren: Jonas & Ian Zempel; sister Marcia Halvorson of New Ulm; brother Jerry (Denise) Ryer of Montevideo; sister-in-law Judth Ryer of Kandiyohi; and many nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion Pixie.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother ValGene Ryer and brother-in-law Robert Halvorson.
