Wayne Stanley Read was born on March 27, 1942 in Redwood Falls, the son of Madison and Lucinda (Fagen) Read and after a long and remarkable life, he passed away in his home on Monday, July 27, 2015.
On August 26th, 1962, Wayne married Lorene Annis, the mother of his three children. For the majority of his career, he was a skilled butcher in Templeton, IA and later in Granite Falls as the owner of Read’s Locker until he sold it in 1990 and began working in the Security department at Prairie’s Edge Casino in Granite Falls.
While at Prairie’s Edge Casino he played a number of key roles in the Security department and was a mentor to many. He also served the City of Granite Falls as City Councilman for a number of years while owning Read’s Locker and working at the casino. Aside from his work and his business, he enjoyed home improvement projects in all the homes he had owned. He was always a tinkerer whether it be homes, cars, small gadgets, or adjustments to everyday things to make them more useful.
On November 7th, 1998, Wayne married Mary Barber at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Wayne quickly discovered his green thumb as Mary and he took pride in the gardens they would grow along with their love for rose bushes. After nearly 14 years of marriage, Mary passed away in September of 2012.
Wayne was always willing to listen to a story and help others in any way possible. He cherished his grandchildren and often referred to them as his angels and they could do no wrong in his eyes. He was a true believer in the “golden rule” and always ensured people were treated with the respect and dignity they deserved, regardless of title, position, or past; a value he passed on to many people he met.
Cherishing his memory are his sons and daughter: Dwayne and Dawn (Dols) Read of Jordan, Deanna Read of Sulphur, LA, Jayson and Katie (Guetter) Read of Cologne; his grandchildren: Sadie, Victoria, Lydia, Madelyn, and Tenley; his great-grandchildren: Elijah and Vanessa Rose; first wife Lorene (Annis) Read of Redwood Falls; his sister and brothers: Norma and Wesley Just of Granite Falls; Allen and Jean (Schultze) Read of Wahkon; Harold and Pat (Amberg) Read of Redwood Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Madison and Lucinda, an infant brother Jerome, his sister Kay, and his wife Mary.
