Walter Olson

Walter Olson was born on September 6, 1920 in Westbank Township, Minnesota, the son of Martin and Clara Olson. He passed away Saturday December 27, 2008 at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital.Walter was baptized and confirmed into the Christian Faith at Westbank Lutheran Church of rural Danvers. He grew up in Westbank Township of rural Danvers attending country school in the Big Bend area.Walter served his country during World War II, in the United States Army receiving his honorable discharge in 1945.Walter was united in marriage to Mardelle Miller on February 25, 1949 at the Watson Lutheran Church Parsonage. To this union four children were born. They raised their family in the Watson area where Walter farmed and worked for the city of Watson. Mardelle passed away in 1996.On November 14, 1998 Walter was married to Arlys DeVries at Watson Lutheran Church. Walter and Arlys were able to share in ten years of marriage while living in Montevideo. He was a member of the Montevideo V.F.W. and American Legion and a active member of Watson Lutheran Church. Walter enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, playing cards, and telling stories. He most enjoyed visiting with friends and spending time with his loving family.Walter is survived by his wife, Arlys of Montevideo, Minnesota; daughter, Brenda (Dave) Jones of Montevideo; sons: Rodney (Joy) Olson of Milan; Loran (Diana) Olson of Mesa, Arizona; Brian (Teresa) Olson of Milan; twelve grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; stepchildren: Cindy (Jeff) Burgess of Starbuck; Connie Eggers and special friend Greg Rude, of Montevideo; Jan Devries of Montevideo; five step-grandchildren and five step- great grandchildren; brother: Victor Olson of Little Falls; sisters: Vivian Grinager of Dawson and Myrtle Thompson of Appleton; sister-in-law: Verna Olson of Montevideo; brothers-in-law: Vernon (Hazel) Miller of Montevideo, Palmer (Delores) Lia of Milan and Milo (Lois) Lia of Victoria; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mardelle in 1996; sisters: Thelma Jerve and Viola Thompson; brothers: Clifford and Melvin Olson; 4 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law.
