Walter John Harguth Jr. was born September 28, 1941 to Walter Harguth and Gertrude (Schumacher) Harguth. Walter was baptized and confirmed at St. Clara’s Catholic Church. He attended St. Clara’s Parochial School until 8th grade. He then attended Morris Ag School.
Walter married Marlene (Bruns) on April 27, 1968. They would have celebrated their 50th Anniversary this April.
Walter farmed all his life. He loved the land and anything John Deere. Walter also loved to fix things and tinker with things. He especially loved to work on his 1931 Model A. He spent many hours at his children’s homes doing their fix it projects. Walter felt strongly about being active in his church and his community. He was awarded the Bishops Medal of Service. He did many odd jobs around the church and went on mission trips with Bethany Builders. Walter also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his coffee group. Family was very important to Walter and he took great pride in their two children and 5 grandchildren. He will be remembered by many people as a man of faith, family, friendship, along with the ability to tell a good story and make others laugh.
Walter passed away January 10, 2018 at Rice Memorial Hospital after a 3 month battle with cancer. Memorials are preferred.
Survivors include his wife Marlene Harguth, son Brian (and Brenda) Brianna, Brett and Brogan Harguth. His daughter Beth (and Jason) Benjamin and Allison Bruhn and his brother William Harguth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Bernard and his brother, Paul Harguth.
