Wallace Van Heuveln

Wallace Duwayne Van Heuveln was born March 28, 1927, in Oberlin, Ohio, the son of Claus and Maria (Johnson) Van Heuveln. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended school in Oberlin. His family moved to Minnesota and lived in Raymond.
Wally served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in January of 1946. He was united in marriage to Donna ‘Toddy’ Zurn on October 7, 1947, at the United Methodist Church in Raymond. Wally worked for Zurn-Taatjes Trucking and Fritz Trucking. The family moved to Maynard in 1966 when he went to work for Thorstad Construction. Wally and Toddy enjoyed traveling and spent time in Delaware, California and Montana and enjoyed trips to Duluth for the Labor Day weekend. He spent his off time reading and watching old westerns. Following his retirement he did some woodworking building miniature horse drawn sleighs. Wally always had sweets around and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a faithful member of the Maynard Lutheran Church.
Wally passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at the Clara City Care Center. He was 87 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Toddy of Clara City; children: Susan (Bob) Riley of Granite Falls and Scott (Trudi) Van Heuveln of Clara City; grandchildren: Lori (Tim) Blom; Timothy (Jean) Riley; John (Jennifer) Riley all of Northfield; Bobbi (Randy) Peterson of Granite Falls; Derek (Erin) Van Heuveln of Maple Grove; Amber (Ryan) Verhulst of Blaine; Sean (Hilary) Van Heuveln of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kimberly (Eddie) Palicios of Yucaipa, California; great grandchildren: Jennifer & Kyle Blom, Christine McKenzie, Brandon Peterson, Stephanie, Maddie, Nathan, Kayla, & Marvin Riley, Lauren & Colin Van Heuveln, and Logan Verhulst; sister JoAnne Zieba of Cambridge; and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Paul and Dan; daughter-in-law Vicki (Levitz) Van Heuveln; parents-in-law Ed and Bertha Zurn; brother and sisters-in law: LeRoy and Delcia Van Heuveln; Elmer and Creola Taatjes and Bud and Marian Zurn; and brothers-in-law Harm Randt and Ray Zieba.
