Vivian Loretta Anderson, age 99, of Montevideo, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo, Minnesota. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Bergen Lutheran Church in rural Granite Falls with interment following at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Vivian was born June 5, 1924 in Maxwell Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota, the daughter of Victor L. E. and Phoebe E. (Warner) Anderson. She was baptized September 28 at Providence Valley Lutheran Church, rural Dawson and later confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo. Vivian attended District #77 Lisbon Township School and graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1942.
She worked as a nurses’ aide at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital until her marriage to Clifford S. Anderson on June 3, 1945. They were blessed with two daughters, Deborah Sue and Donna Jean. The couple farmed in Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County. Clifford passed away May 2, 1993. She moved to her home in Montevideo in May of 1994.
Vivian’s faith, family and friends were most important to her. She was a member of Bergen Lutheran Church, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Altar Guild, the Library Board, and served on the WELCA Board. Vivian was also a member of Stony Run Busy Learner’s Homemakers Club.
She enjoyed quilting, bowling, camping, fishing, and playing cards. She especially enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren, which were filled with much banter and giggles that will become cherished memories. Vivian was quick to smile with a twinkle in her eye. Her gentle, generous and humble spirit will be greatly missed by all. Vivian's trust and joy in the Lord were inseparable from her daily life and is the core of her legacy.
Vivian is survived by her daughters, Deborah Janicula of Montevideo, Donna (Donald) Schmidt of Plymouth; grandchildren: Kari (Steve) Rankin, Ryan Janicula, Matthew Schmidt, Anne (Terry) Cassem, Eric Schmidt, Daniel (Ana) Schmidt; great-grandchildren: Kaylee Kouri, Hailey, Madison and Isabel Rankin, Aiden, Alex and Arianna Schmidt, Jess and Jaiden Tezoquipa; brother, Gerald Anderson; sisters-in-law, Catherine, Phyllis and Patricia Anderson; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Vivian is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Anderson; her parents, Victor and Phoebe Anderson; siblings: Iarud (Marien) Ludvigson, Irene (Alfred) Frolund, Avanell (Clifford) Saue, Arnold Anderson, Monrud Anderson, Ione (Edwin) Falk, Lucille (Arthur) Hermanson, and Roger Anderson.
