Virginia Swanson, 94, of Redwood Falls, Minnesota passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday, March 11, 2016 at her home at Garnette Gardens.
Family visitation will be held at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls. Interment will follow at the Lutheran Cemetery east of Clara City on Highway 7 on Tuesday, March 15th. . A memorial gathering will follow the interment at the Immanuel Lutheran Church reception hall in Clara City.
Virginia Mae Swanson was born April 22, 1921 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was the daughter of Martin and Emma Christenson. She spent the early years of her life in Iowa, later moving to Minnesota. She was a graduate of Eagle Bend High School, Minnesota. Virginia worked as secretary and machine records operator for the office of Chief of Ordinance, War Department, The Pentagon in Washington D.C., and the Chicago Ordinance District in Chicago, IL. Following World War II, she was a Trans-World Airlines flight attendant from 1945-1946 in Burbank, CA. She continued to work throughout her life and finally ended her career at Johnson County Community College in the registration department. After retirement, she became a volunteer Ombudsman for the state of Minnesota in the New London/Spicer area.
Virginia and Alfred Swanson of Clara City, MN. were united in marriage on April 10, 1946. His occupation took them to various parts of the United States. They finally settled in Leawood, KS. until Alfred’s death in 1984. Virginia moved at that time to their lake home on Green Lake in Spicer, MN. She often spent winter months in McAllen, TX. where she and Alfred had a second home.
She is survived by her children Candice Yocum of Los Altos, CA., Byron Swanson (Cathey) of Olathe, KS., Nada Young of Madison, CT., Erica Schoffman of Redwood Falls, MN., and Lisa Swanson (John Merrick) of McGill, NV. She had 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, her parents and three brothers.
Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, we’ll miss you dearly. Our hearts are filled with memories that we will treasure for a lifetime. “Uff Da” It’s been fun- We love you Always Mom.
