Virginia Deane Sparby was born October 19, 1924 to John and Hulda Haywood in Langford, South Dakota. She attended school in Langford and spent her childhood days there on the family farm. Virginia was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Langford.In August of 1942, Virginia married Grant Sparby in Ortonville, Minnesota. They lived in Waubay, South Dakota before moving to Montevideo. Virginia was a long-time employee at Trailways Café. She served as a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and in her spare time, loved to travel, sew quilts and dote on her cats. After Grant's death in April of 2006 and then her son Raymond in June, she moved to the Hutchinson area to be closer to family. For the past two years she was a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in Winthrop. With her devoted family at her side, Virginia was called from this life on Sunday evening at the age of 85 years.Cherishing her memory are her children: Kenneth and Jill Sparby of Hutchinson and Danny and Vicki Sparby of Jacksonville, Florida; her grandchildren: Roddi, Jeff and Tim Olson, Anna Percell, Kristopher, Kyle and Lucas Sparby, Brent Halvorson and Nicole Griner; and seven great grandchildren. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband Grant, her daughter Joyce Symens, her son Raymond Sparby and son-in-law Richard Symens.
