Virgil Ora Waller was born March 15, 1927 in Granite Falls, the son of Alfred and Rena (Baxter) Waller. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended country school in the Granite Falls area. Virgil grew up on a farm and spent his early years working with farmers in the area. On December 8, 1950 Virgil entered the United States Army and served his country during the Korean conflict before his honorable discharge on December 5, 1952.
On February 4, 1955 Virgil was united in marriage to Gail Sherman in the chapel at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. To this union, four children were born. They made their home in the Granite Falls area where they farmed. Virgil also worked for Marvin Hammer Plumbing for 15 years and later, 17 years for the Yellow Medicine County Maintenance Department before he retired.
Virgil was a member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church and the Granite Falls VFW. He enjoyed music and played the harmonica and the accordion. Virgil especially enjoyed spending time with his family and watching sports and was known for his sense of humor.
He is survived by his children: Brian (Debra) Waller of Granite Falls, Pam Loken of Granite Falls, Kevin (Kathi) Waller of Shakopee, and Craig (Darcee) Waller of Hutchinson; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Rena Waller, his step mother Petra, his wife Gail, son-in-law Larry Loken, brothers: Lawrence and Jerome Waller; and a sister, Bernice Schwartz.
