Virgil Andrew Henning was born April 30, 1921 in Clara City, Minnesota the son of Fredrick and Margaret (Henning) Balster. On March 2, 2011 surrounded by family Virgil passed away peacefully at the Clara City Care Center.He grew up and attended school in Clara City, Minnesota. After graduating from Clara City High School he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He achieved the rank of Sergeant while serving as a "gunner" on the ship ?Ile De France?. He revived service medals for the Asiatic Pacific Theater, European African Middle Eastern Theater and American Theater. Virgil received his honorable discharge on October 27, 1945.Virgil was united in marriage in Raymond, Minnesota to Lorraine Henslin in 1950. To this union one daughter, Elise was born. Virgil and Lorraine made their home and raised their family in Clara City. He began working for VSC rising to vice president within the company. After 31 years of service with VSC he retired to become city administrator in Clara City, a title he held for ten years.He was a member of the Clara City American Legion, and Immanuel Lutheran Church. Virgil enjoyed spending time at George Lake and loved spending time with his grandchildren.Virgil is survived by his daughter Elise (Tom) Kontz of Clara City; grandchildren; Stephanie (Shane) Swenson; Kevin (Darcie) Rosendahl; great grandchildren: Wyatt Swenson, Eva Swenson, Cadence Rosendahl, and Kailee Rosendahl; Sister-in-laws: Mildred Haats of Willmar, Minnesota; Doris Foesch of Bird Island, Minnesota; Evelyn Henslin of Alexandria, Minnesota; and Alice Balster of Maynard, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Wife Lorraine in 2003; parents: Fred and Margaret; sisters: Shirley Barney and Beverly Hood; brothers: Jerry Balster and Bob Balster.
