Vernon Albert Miller was born March 3, 1922, the son of William & Sadie Miller in Camp Release Township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Vernon attended School District #2 in Lac qui Parle County. Vernon served his country in the United States Army, serving in Austria and Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1947. Vernon was united in marriage to Hazel Olson on November 3, 1948 at the Big Bend Parsonage. He was employed as a locomotive engineer from 1948 until his retirement in 1982. Vernon also was a part time farmer. He was a member of the American Legion, Milwaukee Road Heritage Center, Minnesota Valley Antique Association and enjoyed woodworking. Vernon passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at his residence. He was 90 years of age. He is survived by his wife Hazel; two sons: Galen (Lisa) Miller of Hill City, South Dakota; Wayne Miller of Chaska; special nephew Charles (Elizabeth) Jahn of Montevideo; grandchildren: Jessica (Tim) Dauwalter of Cologne; Zuri Miller of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Miranda (Jon) Souba of Chaska; Zachary Miller of St. Charles, Missouri and Annelise & Karina Jahn of Montevideo; and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Mardelle Olson.
