Vernon Dale Leenerts was born on October 31, 1953, in Dawson, MN, the son of Dale Leon and Ethel Ninah (Nelson) Leenerts. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Boyd and attended high school in Boyd.
On December 2, 1972, Vernon was united in marriage to Sarah LaBatte at the Pejuhutazizi Presbyterian Church on the Upper Sioux Reservation near Granite Falls.
Vernon was a CDL truck driver, worked for Jacobson Tree Experts, Minnesota Valley and Johnson Seed Farm. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing marbles, gardening and listening to gospel music.
Vernon professed a deep love for his Lord and carried within him a deep Christian faith. He was not ashamed of sharing the Word of God with anyone and took any opportunity to do so. He was called to his Lord’s Heavenly Kingdom on March 10, 2016, at the age of 62 years.
He is survived by his sons- Travis (& Jessica) Leenerts and Derek Leenerts, all of Granite Falls; his grandchildren- Gerrod, Narria and Everra Leenerts; his sisters- Debra (& Kenneth) Stevens of Cayon Lake, TX; Cindy (& Jon) Hokins of Montevideo, and Julie (& Bob) Grant of Montevideo; nieces & nephews- Missy, Chad, Donald Darin, Deena, Sheila, Nathan, Nicole, Lee, Kelly and Angie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Gerrod; a brother Robby Leenerts; and maternal and paternal grandparents- Nils and Alma Nelson & George and Ethel Leenerts.
