Vernon Benedict Jahn a.k.a.Beany, of Montevideo Minnesota, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and grandchildren on June 26, 2015 in San Jose California at the age of 91. Vernon was born on October 28, 1923 in Montevideo Minnesota, the 9th of 10 children to Ida Mary Francis Bistidou and Leroy Bernard Jahn. Beany is preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and 4 brothers.
Beany Jahn was the loving and devoted husband of Audrey Jahn for 67 years. Audrey proceeded Beany in death in 2013. He was also the loving and caring father to his 11 children: Theresa, Patricia, Andrea, Judith, Pamela, Peggy, Jeffrey, Steven, Elizabeth, Joseph and Jacqueline, his sons-in-law, Larry, Allen, Michael and Kenneth, his daughters-in-law Rhonda and Danelle, adoring grandfather to his 30 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and loving uncle to several nieces and nephews.
Beany graduated from Montevideo High School in 1942. Upon graduation he joined the military. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army as a Staff Sargent and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1946. He received 18 separate metals for his service, including the metal of good conduct. Upon his return from his military service in the South Pacific, he married the love of his life, Audrey. They were wed at St. Joseph Catholic Church on December 31, 1946 and began what can only be described as a beautiful and magical adventure together. In 1950, Beany, Audrey and their first three daughters left Minnesota for Southern California, where Beany joined his brothers in their plumbing business. In 1961, with a total of 8 children in tow, and one on the way, Beany moved his family to San Jose. Between 1961 &1965 they added 3 more children, for a grand total of 8 girls and 3 boys. Having one more child than his father tickled Beany.
Beany owned and operated Foothill Plumbing in San Jose from 1961 until his retirement in the late 80’s. It was then that he and Audrey returned to Montevideo to live, laugh, love and grow old together in their own personal paradise, Carlton Lake.
Beany was an honorable, honest, hardworking, loving and faith filled man. He always put his wife and children before himself and God before all else. He was the life of every party, bringing just the right amount of naughty to any event. Beany had the voice of an angel and danced like he was walking on air. His beautiful blue eyes would shine when he spoke of his love, Audrey. His smile could light up a room and his laughter was contagious. He will forever be our hero and we will all miss him beyond measure.
