Vernette Nelson was born on November 26, 1915 to Walter and Selma Kirschbaum. She was baptized on December 26, 1915, confirmed on May 5, 1929, and then married to Herbert Nelson on September 1, 1938 in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. Vernette owned an antique business for many years and loved traveling to antique shows and flee markets. She was also known for her craftiness which included quilting, crocheting, needlepoint and knitting. Vernette and Herb enjoyed their cabin on Lake Minnewaska in Starbuck for many years. Fishing was a sport that she could never get enough of. Working in her flower beds and gardening was also a deep passion that she had, but family was always dearest to her heart. She had just celebrated her 95th birthday with them this past Thanksgiving. On Saturday, December 11th, Vernette died at the Granite Falls Manor. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Jan, five grandchildren- Anita (Dean) Hinrichs, Andrea (Rick) Saatzer, Patrick (Mindy) Nelson, Scott (Sarah) Nelson, and Amanda Ross; as well as being blessed with thirteen great grandchildren-Colton, Corey, Jeremy, Jill, Shantay, Austin, Jayda, Brayden, Taylor, Cody, Landon, Anisty and Autumn, and two great great grandchildren- Logan and Caydence and a very special niece Janet (Kirschbaum) Beito.Vernette was preceded in death by her husband Herb, her daughter Joan and her son Larry. She will be missed by all who knew her.
