Verne D. Anderson

Verne Dale Anderson died at home on May 15, 2015. He was born on May 1, 1928 to Martin and Pearl Anderson at home near Hanley Falls. The family moved to Granite Falls after the death of his mother. Verne entered the Army in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1952. He served time in Germany during his military service.
Verne married Mae Midthun on October 19, 1960. They made their home in Granite Falls. Verne worked for the City of Granite Falls at the water and power plant for 26 years and retired in 1990. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing the area rivers and lakes. Verne had a lifelong love of softball, both playing and coaching. He played for several teams well up into his 60’s. Verne coached summer softball teams over the years and he has been part of the coaching team for the Yellow Medicine Sting Girl’s Softball team since 1982.
Verne is survived by his wife, Mae, children, Steve Midthun (Sue), Sue Nelson (Bryan), Tom Midthun (Char), Mark Anderson, Mary Rice (John), and David Anderson (special friend Dawn). Grandchildren: Jon Nelson, Krista Okins (Tom), Angie Midthun, Jenny Midthun (Kyle), Michael Midthun, Amy Midthun, Matt Rice, Robert Rice, Carrie Rodriguez (Juan), Jagger Anderson, and Keaton Anderson. Great-Grandchildren: Kolten, Kalen, Ben, Zachary, Carter, Austin, Elexis, Madison, McCailey, and Caelyn. Brother: Myron Anderson of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Orley, Wally, Bob, Joyce, and Mary.
