Verlin Maurice

Verlin John Maurice was born on September 22, 1941 to Timothy and Helen (Woltjer) Maurice on the family farm north of Danube. Verlin went to school in Danube before farming with his parents.
On May 23, 1965, Verlin was married to Barbara Lu Schroeder at St. Matthews Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May of 2015.
Verlin and Barbara moved their family to Maynard in the early 70’s where he was employed by Jack Frost and then by Cargill. He retired from Cargill after 30 years of dedicated service.
He enjoyed riding and raising horses, and after his retirement he built a collection of antique tractors and trucks. Verlin loved his family and was always proud of their accomplishments. He had a special place in his heart for all five of his grandchildren and his first great grandchild. He loved spending time with his family and his many, many friends.
Verlin passed away on January 4, 2016 at his home in Maynard surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Maurice of Maynard, son Jon of Maynard, daughter Cathie (Troy) Simenson of Blomkest, son Jim (Kevin Crowley) of St. Cloud and son Jay (Stacy Anderson) of Maynard; grandchildren: Cody (Brooke Carlson) Simenson of Kandiyohi, Courtney (Kyle Harazin) Simenson of Blomkest, Casey Simenson of Blomkest, Bryce Maurice of Duluth, Kelsey Maurice of Montevideo, and a great grandson Cooper Simenson of Kandiyohi; siblings: Virgil (Elaine) Maurice of Olivia, Wayne (Mavis) Maurice of Danube, Mary Jansen of Bird Island, Larry (Linda) Maurice of Bloomington, David (Connie) Maurice of Danube, Deb (Chuck) Folkerts of Olivia , and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Timothy and Helen Maurice, his sister Virginia Green, brother-in-law Gary Jansen, and Barbara’s parents, Hazel and Reuben Schroeder.
