Velma Stranlund

Velma Ruth Stranlund was born on April 30, 1917, in Stearns County, MN, the daughter of John and Mable Stelton. She attended school in Stearns County until she was needed to assist with her mother's care and the care of her siblings.Velma was employed in Litchfield and Minneapolis and after marrying Martin Stranlund on November 18, 1946, she converted to the Catholic faith. She and Martin resided in several locations in Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota due to Martin's employment with Cargill Company. They settled in Montevideo in 1971. Velma lost Martin in 2005 after 58 years of marriage.On Sunday morning, September 16, 2012, Velma was called peacefully from this life. She will always be fondly remembered by her family and friends as a giving and caring woman. Surviving family include her children- Dianne (& Dennis) Custer of Ft. Collins, CO; John (& Cindy) Stranlund of Savage and Jerald (& Pauline) Stranlund of Montevideo; 8 grandchildren- Justin (& Jennifer) Custer, Tobias (& Molly) Stranlund, Amber Wigham (& Jason Rogers), Shawnae (& Kevin) Kelly, Jermaine Stranlund, Chad Stranlund, Jolene (& Ravin) Bilbrey and Collin Stranlund; 10 great grandchildren- Jonathon Stranlund, Katie Jo Kelly, Jordan Wigham, Kauilani Bilbrey, Kyle Kelly, Travis Stranlund, Jessie Stranlund, Alexius Bilbrey, Ruby Bilbrey and Kress Rogers; one sister- Ruby Anderson; Goddaughter- Pattie Tackeny and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
