Velma Schmidt

Velma Blondie Marcella Schmidt was born January 26, 1928, in Marietta, Minnesota, the daughter of Martin & Elma (Berndt) Bjornstad. She was baptized in Freeland Township, Lac qui Parle County and confirmed at Augusta Lutheran Church in Marietta. Blondie attended school in Marietta. She was united in marriage to Walter Schmidt at the St. Paul Lutheran Parsonage on March 16, 1947. Blondie was active with the St. Paul Lutheran Church and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Blondie passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital. She was 86 years of age. Surviving family include her children- Dianne Welling of Milan, JoAnne (Delano) Schrupp of Montevideo, Neil (Dawn) Schmidt of Montevideo, Elise (Wayne) Shequen of Pine River, Paula (Paul) Sachariason of Montevideo, and Yvette "Dolly" (John) Lyngen of Montevideo; 18 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Vera May Wittman, three brothers Arnold, Donald and Waldo, husband Walter and sons-in-law Vince Welling & Timothy Cronen and grandchild baby Schrupp.
