Ursula “Ursie” Ann (Herdina) Hennen was born on October 20, 1937, to Hattie (Zetah) and Edward Herdina in their rural home of Henryville Township in Renville County. She was 3rd of 14 children. On September 12, 1959, Ursula married Merlin Hennen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn, MN. Together, they lived in Morton for two years before moving to Franklin and lived there for 25 years while raising their four children. Currently, they reside in Granite Falls.
While in Franklin, Ursula was very involved in the church and taught CCD for many years. Ursula’s love for her husband and family was her top priority, and she always put others first. With Ursula’s hard working hands, she enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, playing cards, and crocheting with the Crocheting Group in Franklin. Her later love was making seasonal wood crafts and attending craft shows with her husband and daughters. Ursula never sat still. She worked as a housewife, and also worked at the H&H Liquor Store in Franklin, Hilltop Supper Club in Morton and the Granite Falls Public School kitchen.
Ursula passed away on January 12, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her family and her husband, who lovingly took care of her until her last breath was taken.
Ursula is survived by her husband of 55 years, Merlin Hennen of Granite Falls; her children: Russ (Sandra) Hennen of Echo, Randy (Denise) Hennen of Baxter, Cindy (Mark) Frank of Benson and Tami (Dave) Heiling of Shakopee. Ursula was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Hattie Herdina, father-in-law and mother-in-law Irwin and Mary Hennen, and brother-in-law LeRoy Goeltz.
We will miss Ursula’s beautiful smile, witty sense of humor, kindness, love, care for others, craftiness, great cooking and love for children.
Alzheimer’s was met with dignity. It robbed her family of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Blessed be her memory.
