A celebration of her life will be planned for summer 2021 and open to friends and family.
Tena was born to Eilert and Antina Grussing on May 2, 1922, in the small village of Scharrel, near Cologne, Germany. At the age of four years, she immigrated with her family to Minnesota, settling in the Clara City area. She married Ervin Tomes on June 19, 1947 and they lived on the Tomes family farm where they raised their four children. Tena was a true homemaker and took pride in her impeccable home and large gardens. Many friends and family were appreciative of her baking skills! She was an active member of St. Clara’s Catholic Church and faith was very important to her. Ervin and Tena spent many winters in south Texas where they made many new friends. They retired to Clara City and later moved to assisted living and the Care Center.
When asked what words described Tena, her family said peaceful, loving, accepting, generous, saintly, wonderful and above all, kind. Tena always saw the best in people.
Tena and Ervin are survived by three of their children, a son-in-law, and families:
