Steve Ulferts, age 68, of Raymond, MN passed away in his sleep on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Brookside Senior Living in Montevideo. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Bunde Christian Reformed Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 19, 2022, from 5-7 P.M. at Bunde Christian Reformed Church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Steven Wendell Ulferts was born on October 23, 1953, in Willmar, MN. He was the son of Ben and Alma (Slagter) Ulferts. Steve was baptized and professed his faith at the Bunde Christian Reformed Church. He attended school in Raymond and graduated there in 1972.
After high school, Steve began farming with his dad. He married Joy Hauser on November 1, 1975, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Raymond and they were blessed with three children, Justin, Kyle, and Ashley. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church and served on the church council there. Later in his life he became a Raymond Lions member and enjoyed serving the community.
Steve continued farming until 1991 and then pursued an accounting degree from Ridgewater. He began working for Marcus Construction as an estimator upon graduation. In 2004 he partnered with his son Justin, and Ryan Niemeyer to form NU Construction. In 2017, he sold the business and edged into retirement.
On February 7, 2009, Steve was united in marriage to Jill Levitz at Trinity Lutheran Church of Havelock in Montevideo. Steve and Jill continued life together on Steve’s family farm and spent their marriage enjoying gardening, welcoming grandchildren, and sharing a life together.
Steve enjoyed wood working, reading, fishing, gardening, and canning. Spending time with family was important to him and he always had a soft spot for the grandchildren. He was known for his quick wit, sarcastic sense of humor and willingness to help others, whether it was his fellow coworkers or a neighbor in need.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jill Ulferts; son, Kyle “Smiley” (Tanya) Ulferts of Raymond; daughter, Ashley (Cory) Sietsema of Clara City; daughter-in-law, Heidi (Nate) Graves of Bunde; stepchildren, Anthony (Jen) Levitz of New London, Ashley Levitz-Mickels of Raymond; mother of his children, Joy (Greg) Thissen of Clara City; grandchildren, Benjamin (fiancée, Grace Brewers) Ulferts, Alexis Ulferts, Cayson Graves, Ketcie Ulferts, Keena Ulferts, Kinley Ulferts, Kelaya Ulferts, Mari Sietsema, Noah Sietsema, Brinly Sietsema, Eli Levitz; great grandchild, Payten Ulferts; siblings, Jan (Gary) Boe, Laura (Ralph) Babcock, Curt (Vera) Ulferts, Marsha (Jeff) Johnson, Renae (Dana) Allen, Tammie (Sheldon) Schmiess; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Steve is proceeded in death by parents, Ben and Alma Ulferts; stepmom, Anna Ulferts; son, Justin Ulferts.
