Stanley Floyd Holien was born September 7, 1928 in Maynard, Minnesota the son of C. O. and Mabel Holien. He passed away November 17, 2011 at Essentia Health in Sandstone, Minnesota.He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Wang Lutheran Church. He attended country school District 44 and continued his education graduating from Maynard High School. Stan was active in the National Guard during the Korean Conflict completing his basic training at Camp Rucker in Alabama. Following his discharge he returned to Maynard and was self employed as a truck driver hauling gravel and grain. On February 17, 1955 Stan was united in marriage to JoAnn Dooner at Palmyra Lutheran Church of rural Bird Island. To this union two sons were born.Stan and JoAnn made their home in the Maynard area and began farming. He farmed for over 40 years retiring in 1999. In 1998 Stan began volunteering for Yellow Medicine County Family Services and Project Turnabout in Granite Falls as a driver for their clients. In 2009 Stan and JoAnn received the Minnesota Volunteers of the year award. Stan enjoyed having coffee with friends in Maynard, pontooning, storytelling, listening to country music and attending different music and polka fests. He also enjoyed traveling with JoAnn to Arizona, Branson, Missouri, and Nashville, Tennessee.Stan is survived by his wife JoAnn Holien of Granite Falls; sons: Lon (Fiancé Kathy Goldschmidt) Holien of Willmar; Keith (Margo) Holien of Spicer; grandchildren Mandi (Ty) Hippe, Barrett Holien, Brittany Holien, Ashley Holien; great grandchildren: Adriana Bratch, Gigi Hippe, and Mya Holien; in-laws: Mildred Holien of Maynard; Mike (Marilyn) Dooner of Arlington; Arlene Dooner of Bird Island; Dorothy Rebstock of Redwood Falls; Gerald (Shirley) Brandjord of Willmar; Mike (Nancy) Perazzo of Pine Grove, California; Charles Grosam of Fairfax; aunt Blenda Alstad of Granite Falls.He was preceded in death by his parents Christ and Mabel; brothers: Myer (Shirley) Holien; Kermit Holien; sisters: Caroline (Donald) Knight and Mildred (Emery) MacRunnels.
