Stanley Harms, 73, of Clara City, passed away on Wednesday August 24th at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Memorial services will be held on Monday at 10am at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
Stanley Arthur Harms was born July 14, 1949 in Montevideo, MN to Arthur and Gertrude Harms. He was baptized August 7, 1949 and confirmed his faith both at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Stan was raised on a farm north of Clara City and graduated from Clara City High School in 1967. After high school he attended the University of Minnesota for one year. He then transferred to SMSU in Marshall where he graduated with the charter class with a degree of Bachelor Arts on June 13, 1971.
Stan was united in marriage to Faye Jolene Jans on September 6, 1969. Stan spent most of life farming and being a CPA for Grussing Accounting. He also spent the last few years buying and selling semi tractors and trailers. He always said it was “the hunt for them” that he liked the most. Each fall he supplied semi’s and trailers to several beet farmers to haul their beets to the beet pilers.
Stan was a long time member of Bethany Reformed Church. He also served as Township Officer for Crate Township for many years. From 1982 to 2021 he served as Director/Officer of Prairie West Mutual Insurance Co.
He enjoyed going out west hunting and to Alaska fishing. More than anything however; Stan loved his family and found great joy in watching his children participate in any and all activities. Later on he enjoyed watching his grandchildren in school sports/activities. He was very proud of his grandchildren.
Stan passed away on August 24, 2022 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar after a tough battle with cancer. Stan is survived by his wife, Faye; children: Jennifer and Dan Dirksen of Montevideo, MN and Sara and Randy Garrett of Mayville, ND. Grandchildren: Ashley Dirksen of Lincoln, NE, Dylan Dirksen of Rhome, TX, Taylor, Carter, Mason, and Keely Garrett all of Mayville, ND. He is also survived by one sister: Elaine Harms of Luverne, MN and several nieces and nephews: Jed Matthiesen, Douglas Jans, Scott Jans, Stephanie Brantner, Stacy Rodeberg, Brenda Jans, Laura Streich, Debra Jans, Anna Jans, Julie Millman, Michael Jans, and Karen Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Gert Harms of Montevideo, MN and his father and mother-in-law, Jake and Winnie Jans of Clarkfield, MN and one sister Emily (Lyle) Matthiesen of Luverne, MN.
