Sophie Lecy

Sophie Arloine Lalim Lecy was born on March 3, 1921, to Iver and Bertha (Borstad) Lalim of Maynard, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Wang Lutheran Church of Maynard. She attended country school and then attended and graduated from the Maynard Public School. She received her teaching certificate from the Teacher Training School in Montevideo and continued on to Southwest State University from which she received her B.A. Degree in Elementary Education. Sophie taught in the country schools in District 66- Clara City, District 48- Sacred Heart, and Districts 285, 289, 302 of Montevideo. She went on to teach in the Maynard Public School District #127 until her retirement in 1983. On June 12, 1947, Sophie was united in marriage to Hilton Lecy at Wang Lutheran Church. They purchased the family farm near Maynard where they farmed until they retired and moved to Granite Falls in 1990. Through the years, Sophie was active in the Wang Ladies Aid, in teaching Sunday school, as well as her many years as a public school teacher. She entered the Granite Falls Manor in November of 2004 where she resided until her death on Tuesday evening, January 26, 2010, at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 26 days. Sophie is survived by her nieces and nephews- Alden (& Ruth) Lerohl of Hot Springs Village, AK, Howard (& Diane) Lerohl of Minneapolis, Robert (& Helen) Lerohl of Sacred Heart, Patricia Falcone of Fresno, CA, Iver (& Judy) Lalim of Maynard, Michael (& Linda) Lalim of Chanhassen, Steven (& Vivian) Lalim of Bullhead City, AZ, Karen Russco of Altoona, WI, Earle (& Donna) Benson of Cosmos, Beverly Tellefsen of Granite Falls, Gaylen (& Cynthia) Lerohl of Alexandria, and Brian Lerohl of Fairview, SD, several grandnieces and grandnephews. Preceding Sophie in death were her husband Hilton, parents Iver and Bertha Lalim; brothers and sisters- Clarence Lalim, Emma Lerohl, Ida Benson, Selma Lalim, John Lalim, Hilda Lerohl and Minnie Lecy; sister-in-law- Eva Lalim; brothers-in-law- Alex Lerohl, Ernest Benson, Lloyd Lerohl and Lester Lecy; one nephew- Dale Benson.
