Sigvart Fredrickson

January 19, 1905 — January 25, 2009

Sigvart Fredrickson, 104, Granite Falls, formerly of Maynard, died Tuesday at the Granite Falls Manor. He was born January 19, 1905, in Lyngdal Valley, Norway, to Fredrik Andreas and Severine Grøvan. He grew up on a 9-acre farm in the valley, attended 7 years of grade school and was confirmed in the Christian faith at the Lyngdal Lutheran Church. At the age of 20 he moved to America to find a better life and join three of his brothers who had previously immigrated. On December 13, 1943 he proudly became a citizen of the United States of America. Sig was drafted into the United States Army December 25, 1945 serving as a member of Company A 99th Infantry Battalion. He was honorably discharge due to an illness. After serving his country he returned to Wang Township, Renville County where he farmed and practiced his carpentry skills building many area houses and barns. June 20, 1948, he married Borgney Lindseth from Stinkger, Norway. In 1962 Borgney suffered a debilitating stroke and Sig devoted the next 22 years caring for his wife. He is survived by one niece and three nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and 13 siblings.
