Shirley Jean Paulson was born April 3, 1926 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Russell and Elma (Bergen) Payne. She passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. She attained the age of 87 years.
Shirley grew up in the Belview area and graduated from Belview High School after which she moved to Olivia and worked as a waitress.
On January 11, 1948 Shirley was united in marriage to Arthur Paulson. Their union was blessed with five children.
Shirley was a loving wife and mother caring for the home and raising their five children. She would also help with the bookkeeping at Art’s radiator shop.
She was known to do needle point, cross stitch and make afghan’s. Shirley also enjoyed baking, word finds, tending to her plants and working on the family hobby farm. Her dogs, Tiny and Teeny were great companions and she walked with them every day that was possible.
Shirley is survived by her children: Larry (Linda) Paulson of Montevideo; Jerry (Janell) Paulson of Granite Falls; Terry (Mary) Paulson of Hazel Run; Barb (Allan) Torke of Wood Lake; and Sue (special friend Billie Weinhold) of Cottonwood; 13 grandchildren: Wendy (Mike) Richards of Montevideo; Lisa (Rodney) Roberts of Montevideo; Brian Paulson of Montevideo; Amber (Jim) Hjelmstad of Rapid City, South Dakota; Blake (Hannah) Paulson of Alexandria; Tony (Angie) Paulson of Granite Falls; Katie Paulson (and friend Ben) of Shakopee; Jolene (Joe) Ziegler of Litchfield; Heather Torke of Wood Lake; Tara Torke (and friend Paul) of Burnsville; Alison (Aaron) Bakkelund of Hanley Falls; Brooks (Amy) Torke of Wood Lake; Stephanie (Jeff) Bragg of Marshall; 14 great grandchildren: Samantha Torke, Jacob Roberts, Matthew Roberts, Jakob Pringle, Kayla Richards, Janessa Bakkelund, Owen Hoepner, Megan Hjelmstad, Ava Hoepner, Tyler Hjelmstad, Samantha Paulson, Tia Nelson, Ella Nelson, and Ethan Ziegler; step grandchildren: Jenny and Teddy Anderson, Sarah and Andrew Bollman; 3 step great-grandchildren: Kala and Katie Ziegler and Bria Bollman; and a brother Myron Payne of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband Art in 2009; her parents: Russell and Elma; brother: Gordon Payne; and a daughter-in-law: Cathy Paulson.
