Selma Dirksen

Selma Johanna Dirksen was born May 9, 1920 in Prinsburg, Minnesota, the daughter of Fred and Minnie Slagter. She passed away May 30, 2011 in Clara City, Minnesota. She was baptized October 3, 1920 and professed her faith on June 27, 1943 at Prinsburg Christian Reformed Church. Selma attended country grade school and graduated from high school in Clara City, Minnesota. She later attended Calvin College in Michigan.On March 6, 1946 Selma was united in marriage to Vernon Dirksen at Prinsburg Christian Reformed Church. To this union they were blessed with three children.She taught for three years at the Prinsburg Christian School and was a devoted homemaker, caring for her family.Selma enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family on the farm. She was active with mission circle, ladies aide, and taught Sunday school, Bible school, and catechism.She was expert at canning dill pickles, enjoyed sharing coffee with neighbors and friends, and absolutely adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Selma is survived by her husband of 65 years Vernon Dirksen of Clara City, Minnesota; children: Jean (Dick) Lessman of Willmar, Minnesota; Robert (Diann) Dirksen of Clara City, Minnesota; Diane (Dave) Jones of Willmar, Minnesota; grandchildren: Shannon, Sara and Christopher (Jessica) Lessman, Shawna Schmitt, Jeremy (Allison) Dirksen, Stasha Haukos, Justin (Kara) Dirksen, Robbie (Rachelle) Dirksen, Tina (Todd) Johnson, Travis Jones and fiancé Alicia Kampsen; great grandchildren: Christian, Riley and Braden Lessman; Drey, Chase, and Beau Dirksen; Brady, Hannah, Jayden Haukos; Logan Dirksen, Jaxson, Jase, and Breanna Dirksen; Nolan, Analise, Kira Johnson. Sisters: Lauretta (Pete) Vander Lugt, Francis Van Aalsburg; brother: Calvin (Carol) Slagter; sister-in-laws: Fern Dirksen and Fannie Seeman, and many other relatives.She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Minnie; sisters: Sophia Sankey and Anna Wieberdink; brother: John Slagter; grand son-in-law: Mike Schmitt; a great grandchild in infancy, and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
