Scott D Hempel
September 9, 1955 — August 7, 2015
Scott was born on September 9, 1955, the son of Donald and Shirley Hempel in Granite Falls. He was baptized and confirmed at St Paul Lutheran Church. He attended Granite Falls High School and graduated in 1973. On June 27, 1973, he married his high school sweetheart, Judith Bymers. They made their home in Granite Falls. Together they have three children, Heidi, Jeremy & Joel.
Scott was part owner of Hempel Masonry along with his brother Tim. He was following in his father Donald's footsteps in the family business. He also passed the passion for this profession onto his two sons Jeremy and Joel.
He was also a member of the Granite Falls Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years. He was very passionate about his service on the department and enjoyed countless hours spent with the guys at the fire hall.
Scott lived for spending every free moment with his wife, children & grandchildren. He spent countless hours driving down Highway 212 to the Twin Cities to either babysit for grandchildren or attend their sporting events. He never missed a weekend wrestling tournament in the winter, he was their number one fan.
He enjoyed his vacations with Judy to many tropical destinations in the winter and weekend getaways in the Corvette in the summer. On sunny days in spring, summer and fall you could find him enjoying time on their farm, working in the yard or the garden.
Scott is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judy of Granite Falls; parents Don & Shirley Hempel of Granite Falls; father & mother in-law Bob & Lucy Bymers of Glenwood; children; Heidi (Brian) FitzPatrick of Mahtomedi, Jeremy (special friend Kristen Zimmer) Hempel of Northfield & Joel (Darcy) Hempel of Prior Lake; grandchildren; Devin, Jake, Bryce, Parker, Sam, Ty, Breckan & Preslea; siblings; sister Sandy (Ray) Dudonis of El Dorado Hills California and brother Tim (Jody) Hempel of Granite Falls. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was an amazing man that was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
