Ruth Slattum was born January 5, 1922, the daughter of Olof & Thea (Holien) Slattum, in Maynard. She was baptized in April of 1922 and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in June of 1935. She attended Country School District 44 in a one room school house and graduated at the top of her class from the Maynard High School in 1940.
Ruth was employed at the Family Music Store in Granite Falls for 17 years. She taught piano, organ and accordion lessons at Family Music and also in homes throughout the area of Sacred Heart, Clara City and Maynard for over 53 years. She served as church organist for 40 years in various churches and also as vocal soloist for church services, weddings and funerals. She considered all music activities as her service in God’s Kingdom and in honor and praise to our Savior Jesus Christ. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading about the latest discoveries in alternative medicine and history, especially church history.
Ruth passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018, at her residence. She was 96 years of age.
Ruth is survived by extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Walter.
