Russell Onnen, 88, of Raymond, passed away, surrounded by family, on Saturday February 11, 2023, at Rice Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16th at 10:30 am at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7:00 pm at the church and continue one hour prior to services on Thursday.
Russell Roger Onnen was born May 29, 1934, in Willmar at home, the son of Weedo & Trena (Klaassen) Onnen. He was baptized and confirmed at United Methodist Church in Raymond. He attended Raymond School through the 8th grade. He worked at the VSC in Clara City.
Russell was united in marriage with Marcia Goldenstein at the Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. To this union four children were born: Roger, Lori, Linda & Lanae.
Russ was a dairy farmer for 34 years, from 1958 to 1992. He continued farming the land for another five years. He then went to work for the Erickson family until he turned 80 years old and then fully retired.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, sightseeing old-time music, mowing the lawn and driving his skid loader. Russ also loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Eagles Club for many years.
Russ passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. He was 88 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Marcia of 64 years; children: Roger (Maureen) Onnen and their children: Jason (Christa), Kara & Kaydence Onnen; Lori (Ed) Wolf and their children: Nathan & Courtney Wolf; Linda (Jeff) Weitzel and their children: Jessica (Dan) Bailey, Aiden Wall and Christa Weitzel and Lanae (Phil) Pieper and their children: Anna (Jon) Tjaden, baby Tjaden due in April and Katie Pieper; his siblings: Birdie (Donald) Urban, Darlene (Gene) Ostendorf, Marvin (Karen) Onnen and Norman (Evie) Onnen; brother-in-law Bob (Patricia) Goldenstein and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Vern (Eunice)Onnen; mother and father-in-law, Henry and Anna Goldenstein; sisters-in-law: Shirley (Delmar) Kruger, Barb Goldenstein, nephew Gregg Goldenstein and niece Kathy Hatanpaa.
