Ruby Flickinger, age 81, of Montevideo, passed away April 25, 2021 at her home in Montevideo.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Strombeck Cemetery .
Social distancing will be enforced and masks are required.
Ruby Velma Flickinger was born July 7, 1939, the daughter of Albert and Velma (Langenbau) Clark in Kerkhoven, Minnesota. She was baptized as an infant and grew up in Hinckley with her favorite pet horse, Prince. Ruby loved participating in school activities and was a cheerleader for both football and basketball and was also a majorette for the marching band. She graduated from the Askov High School with the Class of 1957. She was confirmed as an adult at Salem Lutheran Church.
Ruby married Don Sears on October 19, 1957 in Los Angeles, California and together they had five children, Sheryl, Don, Lori, Barb and Ron. The couple lived in California for a time before moving back to Minnesota.
Ruby worked as a nurse at Cambridge State Hospital. In 1972, she moved with her children to Montevideo and worked at various places including the Fiesta Bar and Lounge and the American Legion. On April 17, 1982, Ruby was united in marriage to Perry Flickinger in Montevideo.
Ruby loved her church and was very active at Salem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking and watching the Vikings. Ruby was a homebody and loved to work in her gardens, both flower and vegetable. As most all grandmothers, Ruby loved each and everyone of her grandchildren and her eyes lit up when they came to visit or they were mentioned in conversation.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Perry Flickinger of Montevideo; children, Sheryl (special friend, Brad Bangsund) Sears of Grasston, Don Sears of Montevideo, Lorie (Mark) Schmidt of Gary, SD, Barb Johnson of Ogilvie; grandchildren, Brandon (Sarah) Buckingham, Jason (Amanda) Buckingham, Chad (Cara) Howard, Amber (special friend, John Starbuck) Howard, Jill (fiancé, Scott Olson Jr.) Flaa, Dustin Sears, Justin (special friend, Ashlee) Sears, Heather (Kyle) Goslee, Jesse (special friend, Rachel) Olson, Jerrod (Rebecca) Olson, Eric (Ellen) Johnson, Amy (Jon) Bloemendal, Kylie Johnson, Jessica Sears; great grandchildren, Dylan, Ayden, Cael, Cooper, Connor, Evan, James, Emmett, Sawyer, Shelby, Teagen, Mikayla, Jessalee, Rylan, Dawson, Jace, Drew, Cooper, Carter, Jackson, Wyatt, Ryker, Grace, Wesley, Maximus, Layla, Brandon; great great granddaughter, Emmeri; brother, Albert “Butch” (Rosie) Clark of Milaca; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Velma Clark; son, Ron Sears; great grandson, Dante Sears; brothers, Eugene Clark, Marvin Clark; sister, Shirley Hiljus.
