Ronald Eugene Hanen was born in Jasper County, Iowa on December 23, 1931 to William and Vera Hanen. On Thursday, September 22nd, Ron gave up his courageous battle and died at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital.He was raised in Iowa and moved to Minnesota at the age of 18. He joined the United States Army in 1951 and served as a paratrooper in the Korean War. On August 6th, 1952, he and LaVonne Behrends were married in Clara City. Their union was blessed with eight children. After being discharged from the U. S. Army, Ron started faming and milking cows with his dad. In addition, he worked for the Clara City Elevator, Steffens, Thorstads and farmed in the Sunburg, Kandiyohi areas. Ron and his family settled on the farm near Big Bend where he lived until the time of his death.Ron has had many hobbies including fishing, hunting and restoring old vehicles. He also liked to take on challenges of building things with only a picture of it in his mind. He was a member of the 40/8 Club, VFW, American Legion and the paratrooper organization-Rakkasan. He enjoyed his morning coffee with friends and neighbors at the courthouse. If you needed help, he was a man who was always there to lend a helping hand. Cherishing his memory are his wife LaVonne of Montevideo; his children: Mike (Deb) Hanen of Montevideo, Pam (Wayne) Berg of Climax, Laurie (Dan) Hammond of Aubrey, TX, Cindi (Randy) Viessman of Gary, SD, Patty (Brad) Berven of Pierrie, SD, Dan (special friend Kim Christians) of Montevideo and Doug (Tammy) Hanen of Montevideo; his grandchildren: Heather, Holly, Jason, Ashley, Chris, Corey, Nathan, Kelly, Joy, Jason, Chelsie, Justine, Kyle, Cynthia, Nick and Tiffany; great grandchildren: Valerie, Vanessa, Danielle, Laney, Madison, Maycie, Landon, Wylie, Kayilyn, Mason, JJ, Kiah, Tyson, Lexey, Maddox, Teagan, Khloe, Bentley, Avery, Kayden and Jasper; sisters: Dorothy (Marlin) Marquardt, Joyce (Ken) Van Heuveln, Moni (Dick) Welch and Mary Hatlestad, June Bluhm and Mitzie (Norman) Tanner; brother-in-law Leander Mickels and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Vera, his son Larry, his grandson Lucas Piacenti, his great grandson Carter Williamson, his brother Billy Hanen, his sister Donna Mickels, brothers-in-law: Leland Hatlestad and Gene Bluhm as well as a niece Brenda Bluhm. His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss him with all of their hearts. We love you Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa!
