Roger Linnee, 86, of Gwinn, Michigan passed away at his residence on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 7th at 11am at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Thursday.
Lieutenant Colonel Roger Eugene Linnee, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29th at his home in Gwinn, MI. Roger was born August 10, 1937 to Donald “Babs” and Latona “Toni” (Kittleson) Linnee in Montevideo, MN. He grew up in Montevideo and was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Roger graduated from Montevideo High School in 1955 and went on to the University of Minnesota. Roger married his sweetheart, Beverly Agre, on December 3, 1960. They were blessed with a daughter Diane, and sons David and Donald.
Roger served in the military from December 26, 1959 through his retirement on June 30, 1982. As a Navigator on the B-52, Roger achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His Vietnam tours included Guam, Okanowa (Japan), and U-Tapao (Thailand). Upon his military retirement Roger embarked upon his second career as a financial advisor, retiring in 1995.
Roger enjoyed working in his “well-stocked, super-organized” garage, and connecting with friends at the VFW—or over a drink in his basement. Roger and Bev often hit the road as snowbirds—golfing and stopping in on friends down south. However, what brought him the most joy was visits with family—kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He especially enjoyed bringing a smile to their faces—even if (as was often the case) that involved some good-natured ribbing.
Roger is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughter Diane (Todd) Substad of Fort Myers, FL, son Donald (Stacy) Linnee of Gwinn, MI, daughter-in-law Vicki Linnee of Rapid River, MI; grandchildren Chelsea (Patrick) Covitz, Angela (Brendan) Harper, Joshua (Amanda) Linnee, Tyler (Caitlin) Substad, Devin Linnee, Marc Olson and Autumn Jeffers; great-grandchildren Lincoln and Olivia Linnee, Abigail and Patrick Covitz, Averie and Owen Harper, Evelyn Substad, Harmony Olson and Calib and Logan Jeffers. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Latona Linnee, son David Linnee, and sister Joanne Linnee.
There will be a memorial service Thursday, March 7 at 11:00 am at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo, MN with visitation at 10:00 am—and a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Wounded Warriors is preferred. A celebration of Roger’s life will also take place in Gwinn, MI at a later date.
