Rodney “Rod” O’Dell, 76, of Sacred Heart, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at CCM Health in Montevideo. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls. A Time of Remembrance will be at 5:00 PM followed by military honors.
Rodney was born on July 14, 1948, the son of Clinton and Leota (Stowe) Odell in Walton, New York. He grew up in New York and if you would ask Rod where he went to school, in his classic style, he would tell you “in the front door and out the back.” At the age of 17, Rod enlisted in the United State Marine Corps and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War.
Upon returning to civilian life, Rodney embarked in finding his lot in life. He met Rosemary Boscardian out East and together they had their son, Frankie. After parting ways, as life’s road sometimes winds, Rod came to visit his mother in Minnesota in the early 1980s and never left. He married Lorna Reese in 1983 and together they had Dustin and Amanda.
Rod lived in various places in Minnesota, stops include Vesta, Belview, before landing in Sacred Heart. He had a lot of jobs, but most notable were working at the beet plant in Renville and as a machinist at Warner Manufacturing in Sacred Heart.
Rod had one of the largest hearts. He loved to be around people and some would call him the life of the party. His hidden talent was to turn a horrible situation into a bearable one, by a smart remark, or a joke to lighten the mood. Rod loved his kids, grandkids and family. He also enjoyed music and if it was accompanied with a Coors Light, that was alright too.
Rod is survived by his children, Dustin Odell of Sacred Heart, Amanda (Craig) Hinrichs of Maynard, Frankie Boscardian of Gulfport, MS; grandchildren, Nathan Hinrichs, Reid Hinrichs, Zachariah Odell, Ella Odell, Iliana Odell, Sofia Odell; siblings, Victoria Simpson, Ivan Odell, Lloyd Odell, Mark (Ruth) Odell, James (Maryann) Odell, Hank (Florence) Odell, Marcy (Phil) Kessler; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Leota Odell; brothers, Franklin Odell, Doug Odell; niece, Connie Thielen; and his beloved canine, Poppi.
