Roberta S. Dannen was born on October 25, 1917, in Crate Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota, the daughter of Robert and Simka (Klinghagen) Goldenstein. She was baptized in Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City and attended country school in Crate Township. On November 22, 1939, Roberta was united in marriage to Cordie Dannen of Clara City, in a double wedding ceremony with his brother Danny and her sister Etta. The vows were taken at the Robert Goldenstein farm and performed by the Rev. Weeldreyer. Roberta and Cordie then began farming approximately 1 ½ miles east of Clara City. In 1955, they moved to a farm 6 ½ miles south of Clara City, retiring in 1972 and moving into Clara City. Cordie passed away in 1984. They had been married for 45 years. Roberta enjoyed hand work, crocheting, tatting, embroidery and quilting. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed playing cards, putting together puzzles, camping and traveling. She always had time to socialize over a cup of tea, sharing her hospitality with family and friends. Roberta was also the Dannen family historian and devoted much of her time to the Ladies Aid in Bethany Reformed Church.In the early evening hours of Tuesday, March 27, 2012, Roberta was called from this life at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital. She was 94 years of age. She is survived by her children- Evon (Michael) Miller of Walker, Earl (Nancy) Dannen of Spokane, WA and Claris (Bruce) Peters of Buffalo; 8 grandchildren- Joy, Joel, Chad, Eric, Cory, Angela, Austin and Elisa; 2 step grandchildren- Robin & Holly; 13 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; brother-in-law & sister-in-law Roger & Alma Anderson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Cordie; brother- Henry Goldenstein and sisters- Elizabeth Kray and Henrietta Dannen.
