Robert Heath Lovell was born April 12, 1911, the son of Frank & Marie Sutton (Heath) Lovell, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was baptized on June 8, 1913, at West Minister Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended Riverside High School in Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Robert was united in marriage to Shirley Russell on June 13, 1942, at West Minister Presbyterian Church. He served his country in the United States Army on October 14, 1942, where he attained the rank of Major and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. Robert was honorably discharged on February 20, 1946. He worked as a manager for the Co-op Store in Lake Park, Minnesota and then a case worker at Bagley, Minnesota for about five years. In June of 1956, he came to Granite Falls where he was employed with Yellow Medicine County as the Director for Family Services. Robert was very active in the Granite Falls community, serving two terms on the City Council, Past President of the Granite Falls Lutheran Church and was also involved with the Kiwanis, Boy Scouts of America and the Granite Falls American Legion and the Granite Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars. As a member of the Kiwanis he received the George F. Hixon award, which is an international award. Robert passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at the Granite Falls Hospital. He was 96 years old. He is survived by his son: Robert (Sharon) Lovell of Apple Valley; grandchildren: Eric (Leann) Lovell of Inver Grove Heights and Shestine (Brad) Gesbocker of Plainfield, Illinois; three great grandchildren: Conner & Robert Gesbocker and Caitlin Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Shirley.
