Robert Charles Johnson was born on Wednesday, December 12, 1923 in Montevideo to Carl A. and Ruth Emila Johnson. He was confirmed on June 26, 1938 in Strombeck Church. Robert attended District 5 County School through the eighth grade and then Morris Agriculture School in Morris until the eleventh grade when he returned to help on the family farm.On November 12, 1950, Robert was united in marriage to Carol June Haugen at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. They continued farming for the next 36 years. During that time period, he was involved with the local county school board; county board member for Tunsberg Township for 25 years; served on the Salem Lutheran Church Council for 8 years and was a 4-H leader for 8 years. He enjoyed taking adult woodworking classes in Milan. After Robert and Carol retired from farming, they spent the last 25 years in Tucson, Arizona. He died on Tuesday, June 28th, at the age of 87 years while a resident of the Carondelet Hospice in Tucson. Robert will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.He is survived by his wife Carol of Montevideo; their children: Steve (Kathie) of Glendale, AZ; Colleen (Dewey) Folkestad of Montevideo; Jay (Lori) of Montevideo, Marc (Rhonda) of Findley, OH; grandchildren: Shelly Folkestad, Sara Folkestad, Teresa Folkestad, Ashlie (James) Clobes, Greta Johnson, Miranda Johnson and Nathan Johnson; his sisters: Elaine Erickson of Granite Falls and Helen Peterson of Montevideo, 6 nieces and 1 nephew.Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl and Ruth Johnson and his son Greg Johnson.
