Robert Eugene Erickson was born on September 11, 1927 to Cora (Sander) and Edward Erickson. He was baptized on October 16, 1927, in the Rock Dell Lutheran Church and confirmed on May 4, 1941, at the United Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. He attended country school at District 22 in Stony Run Township and later at District 13 in Minnesota Falls Township.
From his induction on January 31, 1946 until he was honorably discharged on March 13, 1947. Robert was proud to serve his country during World War II as a member of the 8th Special Service Company of the U.S. Army. He was stationed in the Philippine Islands as an automotive mechanic, after which he returned home to pursue his love of farming. His dedication to his country and the military remained strong and Robert continued to serve as a member of the VFW Honor Guard until recent years.
Robert was united in marriage to Betty Lou Spies on January 23, 1954. They farmed for many years south of Granite Falls. Robert served on the Minnesota Falls Township board and the Minnesota Falls Elevator board. He was also very involved with the Farmers Union and the National Farmers Organization.
While Robert was committed to farming, he also had so many other interests in life. He loved to hunt when he was younger and remained an avid fisherman, spending much time at his lake home on Lake Scandi near Glenwood. He also loved to travel with Betty and some of their friends. Some of Robert’s favorite times were those spent with family. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved him and looked up to him. He will be greatly missed by all.
