Robert Brouwer was born February 3, 1923 in Rheiderland Township, rural Bunde, Minnesota, the son of Kone E. and Katie (Gerdes) Brouwer. He passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital.
He was baptized at Bunde Christian Reformed Church in Bunde and grew up in the Bunde area. Robert attended country school and later graduated from Clara City High School.
Robert continued his education graduating from Windom College in Montevideo before attending the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis.
He served his country in the United States Army as a mechanic in the medic division receiving his honorable discharge in 1946. Robert returned to the Clara City area and began farming with his family.
On July 23, 1948 Robert was united in marriage to Alice Zimmer at the Bethany Reformed parsonage in Clara City. To this union seven children were born.
Robert and Alice made their home in the Benson area and farmed for several years, retiring in 1988. Following his retirement, they continued to stay on the farm until moving to Montevideo in 2013.
He enjoyed wood working and traveling and was active in the Bethany Reformed Church serving as a former elder and deacon.
Robert is survived by his wife Alice Brouwer of Montevideo; daughter-in-law Cheryl Brouwer of Monticello; children: Marlene (Duaine) VanDerPol of Montevideo; Daryl Brouwer of Dawson; Jeanne (Bruce) Nelson of Olathe, Colorado; Faye (Burl) Tjaden of Montevideo; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Shirley Timmons; brother-in-law: Wally Kluver;
He was preceded in death by his parents Kone E. and Katie Brouwer; son Allen Brouwer, daughter-in-law Shari Brouwer; two sons in infancy, granddaughter Lora VanDerPol, great granddaughter Megan Tjaden; brother Egbert Brouwer; sister Katie Kluver, and brother-in-law Wilbur Zimmer.
