Robert Abel, 84, of Granite Falls, passed away Monday, November 1st at the Avera Granite Falls Care Center. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 7th from 2 to 4 pm at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home Chapel.
Bob was born at home in North Redwood, MN arriving around dinnertime. He was #9 of 10 children. His parents Addie (Roswell) and Sidney Abel lived with their children in and around Renville and Redwood County. Bob quit school to go to work helping farmers when he was just a young lad to help out his folks. Which is what he was most
commonly known for was trying to help out people in
need. Whether it was needing directions, borrowing tools, getting stranded in a snowstorm, needing a ride he was always trying to be there to lend a helping hand.
Bob was united in marriage with Norma (Johnson) in 1963; to this union a daughter, Wanda, was born later that year. He started to work for Parker Hennifin in 1964 and continued working for them for 35+ years; until an on-the-job injury put him into early retirement. He also enjoyed hunting, junking, playing cards, and tinkering with cars.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Wanda, two grandchildren, Michele and Jason, two great grandchildren, Devin and Dylan. He was preceded in death by his spouse Norma, sisters: Violet Kortgard, Grace Bauer, Mary Ims, Marcella Breitkreutz, and Shirley Hutchinson; brothers: Burnerd, George and two infant siblings.
He was also preceded in death by several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
