Richard Winters

July 13, 1934 — July 29, 2011

Richard Eugene Winters was born July 13, 1934 in Montevideo, the son of William & Esther Winters. He attended Montevideo Public Schools until the eighth grade. On January 16, 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of Private First Class, he was discharged on December 17, 1952. Soon after his discharge from the Army, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 9, 1953 and served until July 31, 1955. Richard worked various jobs after his service. He worked at Fannie Farmer Candy Company, a produce company in southern Minnesota, various construction jobs, security at hotels in Minneapolis, at the Veteran's Home in Hastings and had a home-based novelty business before he suffered a stroke. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and spending time with family. One day after his 77th birthday, Richard died peacefully at the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby. He is survived by his children, Doug Winters of Brainerd, MN, Lola Pyles of Anaheim, CA, Lori Winters of Dawson, MN, Diane Smith of Texas and Benjamin Winters of California; six grandchildren, Jonathon, Christopher, Nathan, Cassandra, William & Duane; eight great grandchildren, Hosanna, Josiah, Matthew, Ian, Rylie, Jordyn, Bentley and Liana; several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, Carol Rademacher, Donald Winters, Patricia Rustand, Sharon Winters and Bruce Winters.
