Rhonda Hoeper, 65, of Granite Falls, passed away on Sunday, March 27th at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31st at 1:00 pm at the Upper Sioux Multi-Purpose Building. Visitation will begin on Wednesday at 7:00 pm at the Multi-Purpose Building and continue until the service on Thursday.
Rhonda Marie Hoeper, Hanwi Yeca Win (New Moon Woman), died on March 27th at the Mayo Clinic with family by her side, her smile and laugh will always be remembered. She was the daughter of Evangeline Lesko and Eugene Springer. Rhonda graduated from what was then called Granite Falls High School in 1975 later went on to Willmar Community College, where she received an Associate of Arts degree.
Rhonda went on to St Cloud State where she where she received her Bachelors of Science degree in applied psychology and sociology with a minor in Intercultural Communications. After which she went on to become the first Native American woman ever to graduate with a master's degree from St Cloud State.
Rhonda was very involved with Dakota culture, to the point of attending Sisseton Wahpeton College to study the Dakota language in order to teach her grandchildren. Rhonda always wanted to be a teacher and this year began teaching Special Education at the Echo Charter School.
She was always busy quilting, raising grandkids or going to ceremonies. At times a whirlwind in action.
Rhonda is survived by her husband Mark, two daughters Cheryl Springer of Montevideo and Tracy Wilson (special friend Tyler West) of Granite Falls. Along with six grandchildren Jacob Chamberlain, Tim Wells (wife Niomi), Jayden Wilson Jonna Amos, Terelee Wilson, and Roman West. Along with one great granddaughter Raelynn Wells.
