Ralph Luverne Weflen was born on Monday, May 24th, 1937 in the Montevideo Hospital; the only child of Sarah Juliana and Clifford H. Weflen. He was baptized in Black Oak Lake Lutheran Church on July 11, 1937 by the Reverend H. O. Lee. The family farmed near Montevideo until they retired and moved into Montevideo in the 1970?s. Ralph graduated from Montevideo High School and worked various jobs with Heartland Industries including Jennie-O Foods. Ralph was very devoted to his mother. When her health failed, and she became a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home, Ralph would visit often including taking her shopping or home to enjoy her kitchen baking. When Ralph could no longer care for himself at home, he too moved to Luther Haven and remained attentive to Sarah until her passing in December 2005.Ralph was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Black Oak Lake Lutheran Church until transferring his membership to Trinity Lutheran Church, and thoroughly enjoyed many of the social activities and outings provided during his stay at Luther Haven.
