Ralph Lund Thomton was born December 7, 1922, the son of Emil & Julia (Lund) Thomton, in Montevideo. He was baptized on January 14, 1923 and confirmed on March 29, 1936, in the Lutheran faith at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Ralph graduated from the Montevideo High School in 1941.
He went on to serve his country in the United States Army, serving in the Aleutian Islands, Northern France and Germany. Following his honorable discharge, in 1945, he briefly worked with Burlington Northern Railroad. In 1946, he began his career with NorthWestern Bell Telephone Company. He worked as a lineman until his retirement in April of 1982. Ralph enjoyed his retirement on Lake Minnie-Belle, south of Litchfield, until 2013. He spent a total of 50 years on Lake Minnie-Belle. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying many trips to Canada and Lake of the Woods.
In April of 2013, Ralph moved to Granite Ridge Apartments in Granite Falls, to be closer to family. Ralph passed away on January 2, 2017, at the Granite Falls Hospital. He was 94 years of age.
He is survived by nieces and nephews: Sandra (Richard) Garnas of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Ron (Carol) Thomton of Clara City; Mark Thomton of New London; Bruce (Carol) Tusberg of Hanley Falls; Linda (Steve) Halvorson of Granite Falls and Kathy (Dan) Enninga of Granite Falls; and several grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Eldora (Clifford) Tusberg; brothers: Norton (Hazel) Thomton & Cleon (Violet) Thomton and a nephew Curtis Thomton.
