Paul Moe

August 29, 1927 — January 24, 2016

Paul Robert Moe was born August 29, 1927 in Madison, Minnesota the son of Clifford and DeAmanda (Overhaas) Moe. He passed away Sunday January 24, 2016 at the Granite Falls Manor at the age of 88 years old.
He was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Madison. Paul grew up and attended school in Madison and worked at the Ford dealership.
Paul served his country during WWII in the United States Army receiving his honorable discharge in 1947. He re-enlisted in the Army in 1951 as an artillery master sergeant during the Korean Conflict.
On July 26, 1951 Paul was united in marriage to Elaine Formo at Maynard Baptist Church. To this union two children were born. He received his second honorable discharge in December of 1953 and Paul and Elaine moved to Granite Falls and made their home.
In 1959 Paul was appointed Yellow Medicine County Sheriff, a position he would hold for the next 22 years. During this time he was member of the Minnesota Sheriffs Association and served as the organization’s vice president. Paul was one of the founding members of Project Turnabout in Granite Falls and served on their board of directors for 50 years, overseeing 3 building projects.
He was active in numerous councils and boards, serving on the Alexandria Vo-Tech Law Enforcement committee, the US Selective Service Board, Granite Falls Lutheran Church Council and Ushers Club, and the Granite Falls Jaycee’s.
Paul enjoyed gardening, splitting wood, and fishing trips to Canada, and South Dakota. In his retirement years he briefly worked as a rural postal relief driver.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Elaine Moe of Granite Falls; daughter: Gayle (Bill) Hunter of Albertville; son: Greg (Sheryl) Moe of Oakland, California; grandchildren: Elaina and Nina Moe.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents: Clifford and DeAmanda; three sisters and 4 brothers.
