Paul Marvin Johnson of rural Sacred Heart, Minnesota, passed away on April 1, 2016, due to injuries sustained in a tragic auto accident near Albuquerque, New Mexico. Paul was born on February 7, 1937, to George and Christine Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at Hawk Creek Lutheran Church, which his grandfather help found. Paul was a 1955 graduate of Granite Falls High School. On November 24, 1962, he married Jane Arnold. They had three beautiful daughters, Jacqueline, Kimberly and Angie.
Paul was a farmer through and through. There wasn’t a farm auction that he didn’t attend. After all, a farmer can never too many coffee cans full of nuts and bolts. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage; "you can always can tell a Norwegian, but can't tell him much." Every holiday, Paul graciously offered to share the jar of herring, but no one else ever acquired his love for this traditional Norwegian delicacy.
He was extremely proud of his daughters. He prided himself in teaching them ‘the value of a dollar.’ His favorite saying was “A fool and his money are soon parted.”
After retirement, Paul and Jane spent many wonderful winters in Tucson, Arizona. His favorite activity was the Cat Mountain Jamboree, where local friends would take turns playing guitar and singing western songs.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Jacqueline (Kyle) Johnson-Howell of Kasson, MN; Dr. Kimberly (John) Johnson-Thiel of Oshkosh, WI; Angie (Adam) Richards of Mantorville, MN. 6 grandchildren, who were the light of his life…Jackson and Morgan Thiel, Calleigh and Parker Paul Richards, and Ryan and Ayden Hoey-Howell.
He is further survived by siblings, Vernon Johnson and Virginia Wearda. He was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Gladwin and Goodwin Johnson.
Jane and the girls would like to express their gratitude to the family and friends for their support through this difficult time. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14th at 11AM at Hawk Creek Lutheran Church in rural Sacred Heart, MN. Visitation will occur two hours prior to the service at the church.
