Paul William Banken Jr. was born December 14, 1947 to Paul and Marge Banken in Appleton, Minnesota and was raised on their farm north of Appleton. Because his family were farmers, Paul attended high school through the agriculture program of University of Crookston, where he graduated from in 1965. After high school, he enlisted in the National Guard and proudly served until 1977.
On October 17, 1970, Paul married Arlene Randt and they were blessed with two sons, Douglas and Ronald. After his dad passed away, Paul and Arlene took over the family farm in 1973. They farmed for a few years until Paul took a job with Bowman Electric in 1976. He later worked for Sherco Power Plant in Becker before taking a job with Collins Electric in 1997. He worked as a general foreman overseeing electrical maintenance for a nuclear power plant in the metro area. After Paul retired in 2011, he found a new hobby of quilting with Arlene.
Paul was an avid deer hunter and fisherman; muzzleloading was a true love for him. He took Doug and Ron muzzleloader hunting as soon as they were old enough! Paul also enjoyed bowling and spending time with his good friend Brad Gort. He was always very proud of his boys and granddaughters, and was totally devasted after losing Ron a year ago.
Paul is survived by his wife, Arlene; son, Doug (Laura) Banken; granddaughters, Brynn, Brooke, and Kamry Banken; seven sisters and two brothers, Joanne, Pat, Mike, Doris, Charlotte, Anna, Dale, Margret, MaryAnne; as well as other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Ron; parents, Paul and Marge; and many aunts and uncles.
