Orvin Haugerud, age 80, of Montevideo, Minnesota passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022, at his home at the Clara City Assisted Living. Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo with internment at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Orvin Jerome Haugerud was born on December 8, 1941, in Montevideo, Minnesota. He was the son of Oliver and Helen (Dooley) Haugerud. Orvin grew up in Watson. He attended Watson Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed on May 12, 1957. He received his education in Watson.
Orvin went West to visit his sister and it was while working out there he met Margaret Chartier. They were married May 10, 1967 in Kellogg, Idaho. The couple lived a few years out there and in June of 1969, moved back to Montevideo to raise their family. They were blessed with three children, Will, Chrys and Orvin II.
Orvin worked at Jennie-O until his retirement in 2004. His family was most important and he made it a priority to spend time with his parents and his siblings. Orvin was a quiet man, so when he spoke, his words were genuine and sincere. He loved his wife and missed her very much after her passing in 2013. Orvin was extremely proud of his children and their accomplishments, though not one to talk about it, you could always tell by his beaming smile. He enjoyed fishing and watching All Star wrestling.
Orvin is survived by his children, Will Haugerud of Denver, CO, Chrys (Tim) Kolhei of Montevideo, Orvin “Jerry” II Haugerud of Dawson; grandchildren, Jacqualyn (Scott) Hickey, Cody (fiancée, Megan) Haugerud, Jacob Haugerud, Acadia (Devon) Coil, Kaden Haugerud, Asenath Haugerud; great grandchildren, Airilana, Octavia; siblings, Gertrud (August) Faber of Lake Lillian, Esther (Harlan) Lalim of Montevideo, Darrel (Ruth) Haugerud of Watertown, SD, Dorothy Tollakson of Odessa; as well as other relatives and friends.
Orvin was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Helen Haugerud; wife, Margaret; sister, JoAnn (Jerry) Clark; brother-in-law, Dale Tollakson.
